Shikahr Dhawan is having a torrid time in the ongoing ODI series against England whereas Ishant Sharma has been overlooked for the shorter formats.

Senior opener Shikhar Dhawan and speedster Ishant Sharma were picked in Delhi T20I squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2016-17. The team will be led by Gautam Gambhir and it features rookie wicketkeeper-batsman Arjun Gupta, in the squad of 15.Rishabh Pant will be on national duty for the three-T20I series against England starting from January 26. But Arjun is likely to be the second wicketkeeper as Unmukt Chand is being looked as the first choice keeper, which gives the team an opportunity to pick an extra batsman or bowler.

However, Dhawan, who has not been picked for T20I and Ishant not in the scheme of things as far as limited-overs matches is concerned, would like to make an impression before IPL auctions. Ishant has been dumped by Rising Pune Supergiants (RSP) and is without an IPL contract right now. The auction is not far away and this might be the perfect time to regain some form and look to bounce back.

India’s domestic season is in full swing with the 83rd edition of Ranji Trophy ending with Gujarat claiming the title for the first time. They defeated Mumbai in the summit clash and have their nose ahead in the Irani Cup 2016-17 against Rest Of India (ROI) at the moment. Delhi will like to stage a good performance in Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2016-17 as they bowed out even before the knockouts of Ranji Trophy 2016-17.
