Shikhar Dhawan, who missed the fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka, seems to be struck by series of unfortunate events. Dhawan who recently confirmed that his mother recovering, will now have to fly back home to take care of his ailing wife. Dhawan has requested to be released for first 3 ODIs against Australia. The Senior Selection Committee has decided to not name any replacement for Dhawan in the team. Dhawan was in sound form during the Sri Lanka tour. Dhawan was replaced injured Murali Vijay for the Sri Lanka Test series. He slammed 2 centuries in first and final Test. With tally of 358 runs at 89.50, Dhawan was also adjudged Man of the Series.

He carried his stupendous Test form in the ODIs. He ended the ODI series scoring 190 runs with 132 runs coming off the first ODI. Prior to the Sri Lanka series, Dhawan’s prime began from Champions Trophy. In the tournament, he was named the leading run-scorer with tally of 338 runs at 67.60. With no replacements announced, the case heavily comes down to Ajinkya Rahane. However, Rahane did not pose a strong case who was dismissed for 5 in the final ODI. With India on a experimentation mode in consideration to the 2019 World Cup, we could well see KL Rahul partnering Rohit at the top.

The first three ODIs against Australia will be played in Chennai, Kolkata and Indore. Later, the teams will travel to Bangalore and Nagpur for the final 2 ODIs. The teams will then play 3-T20Is starting from October 7.
