Shikhar Dhawan was named Player of the Match for his astonishing 96-ball 107 (19 fours, 3 sixes) in the India vs Afghanistan Test at Bengaluru. Dhawan got 104 of these runs before lunch, thus becoming the sixth cricketer in history to reach score a hundred in the first session of a Test, after Victor Trumper, Charlie Macartney, Don Bradman, Majid Khan, and David Warner. Dhawan dished out special treatment to Rashid Khan, his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate.

Dhawan expressed his satisfaction on his form in the post-match presentation: “Really happy about the way I’ve been playing. It’s good we finished the match early and we have a few days off. Before going to Ireland, we will be fresh. Of course, the ball was swinging and seaming but I was clear in my mind and it went my way. By the grace of god, I scored a century in one session and it feels special.”

Dhawan also lauded Afghanistan’s journey and predicted bright future for them: “I want to congratulate Afghanistan for making it to this level and Eid Mubarak to him. It’s always a learning process. Once they play other sides and start winning, they will get confidence. It’s a big boost for their country. I would like to thank the audience for all coming here.”
