Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik has been named as the captain of the overseas T20 franchise Guyana Amazon Warriors for the upcoming Caribbean Premiere League (CPL). The 36-year-old, who has also captained Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League, holds an experience of two decades in the international cricket. He has played a total of 102 T20 internationals and 264 one day internationals for Pakistan.

Reflecting on the induction of Malik as skipper, Amazon Warrior head coach Johan Botha said that the player’s experience would come in handy for the team and his calmness would help in handling the pressure situations.
“It’s great to have the experience of Shoaib leading us this year. He is a very calm leader, which will be great in pressure situations on the field,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Botha, as saying.

“I worked with him earlier this year in the Pakistan Super League, so we come into the CPL and the Guyana Amazon Warriors team with a good working relationship and understanding of each other,” he added. Malik has captained Pakistan in 36 T20 internationals and has led the team to victory in 24 matches. Guyana Amazon Warriors are slated to play their opening CPL match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 9.
