Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj‘s quickfire fifties took India to 198 for 4 in the third match of Women’s T20I Tri-Series against England on Sunday at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This is also the second highest T20I total overall. Mandhana and Mithali blazed their way to 100-run stand with the former donning the aggressive role while Mithali was left as mere spectator. England Women fought back in the middle scalping successive wickets but Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar stole the moment back from them.

Mandhana and Mithali were off the mark right away. While Mithali provided a gentle push with back to back boundaries in the third over, Mandhana accelerated the innings going for 20 runs off Katie George. Mandhana was unstoppable since and went on to slam the fastest fifty in the shortest format. She went past New Zealand’s Suzie Bates by notching up her fifty off 25 deliveries. Her fifty comprised of 8 fours and 2 sixes. Mithali played the second fiddle and brought up her 14th T20I fifty right after Natalie Sciver broke the 129-run opening partnership. Mandhana’s 40-ball 76 saw 12 fours and 2 sixes.

Mithali, too, was gone in succession with Tash Farrant picking her first wicket. Jenny Gunn, who is playing her 100th T20I, grasped the wicket comfortably. The middle-order woes continued for India as Veda Krishnamurthy once again posted a disappointing show with the bat. In the meantime, Harmanpreet Kaur kept her calm and took India to their highest T20I total with a brisk 22-ball 30.

Since, the stage was set for Pooja Vastrakar who slammed 17 runs off Gunn in the final over to post the second highest T20I total overall.
