Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain is all set to start his new innings as a cricket administrator. He will be elected as the Joint Secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the next Annual General Meeting on 27th July unopposed.

This is going to be Ganguly’s first tenure as an administrator. He was there in CAB’s sub committees before but this will be his first direct interaction with an important administrative post like Joint Secretary. He will replace Sujan Mukherjee, who will be completing his tenure for this post. Subir Ganguly will be the other joint secretary.

Biswarup Dey, the present treasurer of CAB and one of the close associates of President Jagmohon Dalmia, confirmed this news to CricketCountry. He said,”Sourav was a great cricketer. He has done various good things for Indian cricket both as a player and as a captain. Now we have high expectations from him as an administrator too and under one umbrella we will work for the development of the game.” Dey also confirmed that Gundappa Viswanath will be the chief guest of CAB annual prize distribution ceremony to be held on 26th July.

Though Sourav’s availability for this important post will be a questionable factor. Ganguly is currently in England, commentating for Star Sports in ongoing India England series. He is also the co-owner of Atletico de Kolkata, the upcoming football franchise of Indian Super League. He has other commitments too. So it will be interesting to see how much time he will be able to give in future for this important administrative role.
