South Africa announce Test squad against England; Andile Phehlukwayo earns maiden call up

South Africa have included three uncapped players in their squad, for the four-Test series against England. Andile Phehlukwayo, who was impressive in the limited-overs, is rewarded with a place in the longest format. Meanwhile, Heino Kuhn has been added to bolster the batting, replacing Stephen Cook. It is learnt that Aiden Markram, the third addition, has been brought in as a replacement of Faf du Plessis, who is expecting his first child to be born soon and will not be available the first Test. On the other hand, Dane Piedt and Wayne Parnell have been dropped from the side. Full cricket scorecard: England vs South Africa, 3rd T20I
“I always believe that everything happens for a reason. I think it’s the perfect time for me now. I’ve matured a lot as a batsman and a cricketer, and what a place to make your debut,” Kuhn told EspnCricinfo on his selection. Kuhn also credited his Titans’ coach Mark Boucher for making his game better. “The one thing Boucher said was to focus on the batting more than on the ‘keeping — always keep on working on my ‘keeping but not make that the priority. That’s what I’ve done. He’s made it very clear that I will open the batting in four-day cricket, and that’s what I’ve done. He’s changed my thinking from a keeper-batsman to a batsman who can be a keeper if I need to.”
After losing both Twenty20 International (T20I) and One-Day International (ODI) series, South Africa will face England in the Test series starting July 6.
