South Africa went into tea needing 39 runs to win the second Test and the series at Durban on Monday. South Africa bowled India out for 223. Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen were unbeaten when umpires called for tea.
India could only take a lead of 57 and South Africa would now chase it to win the game and the series. Ajinkya Rahane’s sterling 96 was the only bright spot for India. Dale Steyn and Robin Peterson were the bowlers who pulled down India. MS Dhoni started with Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma and soon brought in Ravindra Jadeja. Except for a run-out attempt, the South African openers were in no trouble.
India were outplayed all through the last day since the first ball when Virat Kohli was dismissed by Steyn. India’s downfall continued and the lack of partnership was evident. Steyn bowled well to keep the batsmen in check.
