South Africa have taken control of the match as they have reduced India to 149 for 6 at tea on Day 1 of the third Test at Nagpur. India lost Cheteshwar Pujara soon after lunch as he was trapped in front for 21 by Simon Harmer. Ajinkya Rahane then walked in and was looking to take on the bowling. He hit a six off Harmer, indicating that he will not get bogged down by the bowlers. The bowlers to their credit stuck to their guns and kept going at the batsmen. Skipper Virat Kohli’s technique outside off will be the talking point once again as he was dismissed poking outside off. The ball took a faint edge and Dane Vilas, standing behind the wicket made no mistake whatsoever. Rohit Sharma scored a magnificent innings in the Ranji Trophy recently, but he could not transform his form into this match as he was dismissed for a 28-ball 2. Ravindra Jadeja then walked in and soon found his feet as he managed to pull, drive and cut with ease. He is supported by Wriddhiman Saha at the other end, who needs to get some runs under his belt. India had lost openers Murali Vijay (40) and Shikhar Dhawan (12) before lunch after the duo had put on 50 for the opening wicket. India have sadly not managed to cash in on a good start provided to them by their openers.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts made a couple of changes from the Bengaluru Test to their squad. Rohit regained his place in the team in place of Varun Aaron. Amit Mishra was added into the team as the third spinner in place of all-rounder Stuart Binny. India lead the 4-match series 1-0, with the 4th and final Test set to be played in Delhi after this match.
