South African Test skipper Hashim Amla has said that it would be very important for his side to find a winning formula to defeat the Sri Lankans in the forthcoming series, rather than thinking about regaining the No 1 world ranking in Test cricket.
Speaking ahead of his side’s two-Test series against Sri Lanka, he said that the island nation is a tough place to tour, and that International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings was not at the forefront of the team’s objectives. He told Sport24 that while the Proteas would love to regain No 1 ranking as soon as possible, it was more important to find a winning formula against the Lankans. Australia currently occupy the top spot.
South Africa have a poor record in Sri Lanka, only managing two wins from 16 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). In Tests, the Proteas had won two matches from 10 outings.
