Sri Lanka have managed to bowl Bangladesh out for 194 inside 49 overs in the second semi-final of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2016 at R Premadasa Stadium at Colombo. If Sri Lanka chase this down, they will take on India in the final on Friday. Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals and as a result never found the momentum that they needed to take their score past 250. The opening pair of Said Hassan and Mohamad Sozaib put up 46 runs inside 9 overs, but the batsmen that followed never really got going. Everyone in the top 6 got starts, but could not converted it into anything substantial.

Credit has to be given to the Sri Lankan bowlers for the way they bowled. Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka, finishing with figures of 4 for 25 in his 10 overs. He was well supported Hareen Weerasingha, who finished with 3 for 29 in just 7.3 overs, thereby creating pressure from both the ends. However it Rayan Rahman, who top-scored for Bangladesh with 38. Bangladesh’s star player in the tournament Afif Hossain managed just 36 today. Mohammad Rakib and Afif put on 48 for the fifth wicket, which was the highest stand of the innings.

Sri Lanka will be very pleased with their effort and will back their batsmen to chase this total down. Both teams have played well in the tournament so far and have also overcome some close fought matches in the group stage. With the required run-rate not a daunting one, Sri Lanka would look to ease to a win. However, Bangladesh are a strong unit and will not go down that easily. Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Brief Scores:

Bangladesh U-19: 194 in 48.3 overs (Afif Hossain 36, Rayan Rahman 38; Praveen Jayawickrama 4 for 25, Hareen Weerasingha 3 for 29) vs Sri Lanka U-19.
