Sri Lanka got the better of South Africa by two wickets in a low-scoring warm-up encounter at the MIG ground in Bandra.
The Lankan women did well to bundle out South Africa for a meagre 164 in 45.2 overs, but made heavy weather of the small target.
Sripali Weerakkody, who top scored with an unbeaten 54 off 65 balls after taking two wickets earlier, combined forces in three crucial stands when Lanka were staring at defeat with scorecard reading 66 for six.
Weerakkody was given good support by Eshani Kaushalya (22), who too had shone with the ball earlier with three wickets, as the seventh-wicket pair rescued the innings with a 40-run partnership.
Weerakkody then put on 41 for the eighth wicket with Chamani Seneviratna (12) before her unbeaten 20-run stand with wicketkeeper Dilani Surangika (10 not out) saw the Lankans home with more than five overs to spare.
Earlier, Mignon du Preez played a captain’s knock of 59 to rally South Africa from a precarious 59 for six.
She added 72 runs for the seventh wicket with Dane van Niekerk (46) that helped the Proteas go past the three-figure mark.
South Africa will also travel to Cuttack to figure in Group B matches with New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan.
