Sri Lanka reached 68 for the loss of two wickets at the end of the first session on the fourth day’s play against Bangladesh at Chittagong. Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 426 in reply to Sri Lanka’s score of 587.
For Bangladesh, Shamsur Rahman and Imrul Kayes notched up fine centuries. Shakib Al Hasan made 50. Ajantha Mendis took six wickets for Sri Lanka.
Sangakkara’s masterful triple century in the first innings saw Sri Lanka take complete control of the proceedings. The spin-heavy Bangladesh attack couldn’t make inroads into Sri Lanka’s batting line-up.
Sri Lanka 587 (Kumar Sangakkara 319, Mahela Jayawardene 72, Ajantha Mendis 47; Shakib Al Hasan 5 for 148) and 68 for 2 (Kaushal Silva 29; Mahmudullah 2 for 8) lead Bangladesh 426 (Shamsur Rahman 106, Imrul Kayes 115; Ajantha Mendis 6 for 99) by 229 runs.
