Aug 8, 2014:
At lunch on Day 3 of first Test against Pakistan at Galle, Sri Lanka is in a comfortable position. They reached 174 for the loss of two wickets. Sri Lanka started the morning session carefully. Both the overnight batsmen reached their half centuries. Kaushal Silva who opened the innings reached his half century first. Kumar Sangakkara reached his half century in the 45th over. After playing 123 balls he reached this milestone.
Mahela Jayawardene in his second last Test gets a big reprieve. After the wicket of Kaushal Silva he came to the crease with a massive reception by the crowd and the Pakistani players and started batting aggressively. He has been given leg before wicket in the bowling of Junaid Khan. In the 53rd over Junaid Khan was bowling to him. It was a length ball on the middle and off line and Mahela made an error of judgement and didn’t play a shot to that and he was stuck on the back foot! Pakistani players appealed, he was given out by the on field umpire Ian Gould.
Mahela moves about a bit and consult to Kumar Sangakkara before asking for a review. but there is the lifeline. The ball tracker shows that it was missing off. Finally the decision was over turned by the third umpire. After that review incident the both Sangakkara and Jayawardene batted bit carefully till lunch. It was a session owned by Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile in day two, Younis Khan slammed his 24th century in Test cricket as Pakistan recovered from a shaky start to post a total of at stumps, against Sri Lanka in the opening Test match of their two-match series at Galle on Wednesday. The lower order continued to frustrate the Sri Lankan bowlers later in the day till they posted a big total of 451.
Pakisntani bowlers though bowled some good balls but failed to take any wicket. Specially Saeed Ajmal got some patches from the wicket. Sri Lankan batsmen played and missed few. But the visitors failed to take any wicket.
