Pramod Wickramasinghe may be sued for the “defamation” as his accusation has questioned integrity of several top players. A petition signed by country’s 40 top cricketers will be handed over to the CID. Pakistan Observer quoted a top SLC official saying, “At present the two-member committee (Ayesh Weerakoddy and Lakshman de Silva) will investigate the matter. The allegations on cricketers are false and if the same can not be proved by Pramodya Wickramasinghe, a defamation case may be filed against him”.

Wickreamasinghe, a former pacer and selector told reporter Bipin Dani, “I had only suggested the rumour doing round here be probed. I read in the newspapers that the ICC will inquire in the matter. I am yet to be invited for the questioning. I will appear only if the independent panel is appointed by the SLC, not otherwise”. Even to the ICC, my answer will be the same. I had only aired my views to probe the rumour”.

Current cricketers claim Wickramasinght made corruption allegations against them and he the 47-year-old has been case as a source of these allegations. SLC had earlier said the players had expressed “profound shock and displeasure at a former national cricketer and selector making such serious allegations,” and that SLC should “initiate an immediate inquiry by summoning Wickramasinghe in fairness to their good names that have been slandered by such diabolic [sic.] allegations.”
