Statistical highlights on the third day of the second and final Test between India and South Africa.

 

# AB de Villiers has been a consistent performer during the last two years for South Africa in Tests — his aggregate being 1748 at an average of 67.23, including six centuries and seven fifties, in 19 Tests since January 2012.

 

# de Villiers’ aggregate of 933 at an average of 77.75 in just nine Tests is the third highest by a batsman in Tests this year, next only to the 1087 by Michael Clarke and 1005 by Ian Bell.

 

# de Villiers’ second fifty vs India is his 34th in Tests.

 

# As wicketkeeper, de Villiers is averaging 57.00 in Tests — his tally being 1,482 in 29 innings, including five hundreds and six fifties.

 

# Alviro Petersen has made 21 & 76 at Johannesburg and 62 vs India in the present series. In his Test career, he has posted consecutive half-centuries for the first time. His seventh fifty (62) in Tests is his third vs India.

 

# Ravindra Jadeja is the first left-arm Indian spinner to take four wickets in a Test innings in South Africa, obliterating the 3 for 73 by Venkatapathy Raju at Port Elizabeth in December 1992.

 

# Jadeja is the second Indian spinner to bag four wickets in an innings at Kingsmead, Durban — the first being Harbhajan Singh — 4 for 10 in December 2010.

 

# Jean-Paul Duminy is averaging 8.33 vs India — his tally being 50 in six innings with 28 as his highest score.

 

# Jacques Kallis‘s sixth fifty vs India is his 59th in Tests.

# Petersen and Graeme Smith have shared a stand of 103 — South Africa’s first opening century partnership vs India at Kingsmead, Durban, bettering the 99 between de Villiers and Smith in December 2006.

 

# For the first time, two century stands in a row for the first wicket have been posted for South Africa against India in Tests — 108 at Johannesburg and 103 at Durban. Of the six century stands for the opening wicket for South Africa against India in Tests, Petersen and Smith figured in three.

 

# Smith and Petersen have registered six century partnerships for the first wicket for South Africa. The pair has joined Herschelle Gibbs and Graeme Smith (seven) and Eddie Barlow and Trevor Goodard (six), who have recorded six or more century partnerships for the first wicket.

 

# Kallis and de Villiers were associated in a 127-run partnership — South Africa’s second highest partnership for the fourth wicket against India behind the 224 by the same pair at Centurion in December 2010.
