Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and commentator Mark Nicholas had a close shave on Sunday afternoon while travelling from Manchester to London in a car after the end of the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford.
According to MiD DAY, the driver turned the car sharply towards the right hand side as they saw another vehicle headed towards their Jaguar car. The Indian legend was sitting on the left hand side at the back along with his London-based friend Chandresh Patel, while Nicholas, who was reading a newspaper was sitting in the front.
Gavaskar had already cautioned the driver as it was raining heavily and he yelled ‘oops’ as the other vehicle approached their car. The vehicle hit Gavaskar’s car on the right hand side, very near to where he was seated.
“My God! God has saved us. There was torrential rain and our car was being driven very fast. Thankfully, no one was hurt although the accident was very, very scary,” Gavaskar said. Gavaskar and other who were travelling in the car had to then walk up to the East Midland Parkway railway station and take the train to London.
