Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi’s lawyer Mehmood Abdi on Tuesday alleged that N Srinivasan was still calling the shots in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and interim chiefs Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav were “toeing his line”.
Talking to media persons after Modi was named Rajasthan Cricket Association president, Abdi said that the BCCI has no legal right to suspend RCA because it was governed by the Sports Act of the state.
“We had thought that better sense would prevail in BCCI after appointing of Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav by the apex court of India who had also asked N Srinivasan to keep away from the affairs of BCCI till the enquiry commission submits its findings. But the BCCI is working in same revengeful manner against former IPL commissioner Lalit as before and that is why Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav are toeing line of Srinivasan,” said Abdi.
“The newly elected president of RCA has assured the executive via video conference and has authorised us to take all possible legal courses to protect the interests of Rajasthan Cricket. He has appointed me and Sudip Hora in the legal committee to fight the BCCI suspension by moving the court in Jaipur,” he said.
“Lalit Modi has assured us that he won’t let BCCI harm the interest of RCA. As regarding the suspension, we feel that Sports Act of Rajasthan is a law of land it would prevail over the bylaws of a registered society like BCCI. The fears of BCCI stopping our grants or not allowing our teams to play is still far away and by that time we would sort out the matter through legal proceedings,” Abdi added.
