Thisara Perera smashes two consecutive boundaries to finish the formalities and take Sunrisers Hyderabad to an eight-wicket win.
Shikhar Dhawan is awarded the Man-of-the-Match award for his brilliant innings of 71, which included 11 boundaries. He becomes the second winning capatin on Tuesday, after Brendon McCullum, to win the player of the match award.
Thisara Perera shows urgency to finish off the game with two boundaries. Sunrisers Hyderabad score 14 runs off the 18th over
Sunrisers Hyderabad need six runs to win in 12 balls.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 149/2 | Over 17 | Thisara Perera 11*, JP Duminy 3*OUT! 2-136 (S Dhawan | 16.1 overs)
Against the run of play, Sunrisers Hyderabad lose skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the first delivery of the 17th over, allowing Kandurata Maroons to get a hold in the match. However, all their renewed energy levels are again dropped as Thisara Perera whacks his first ball for a six.
Sunrisers Hyderabad need 20 runs to win in 18 balls.
Depite Parthiv Patel’s dismissal, Shikhar Dhawan continues to entertain with his elegant batting. Dhawan smashes two boundaries through the off-side, making his intentions clear of finishing off the game early.
Sunrisers Hyderabad continue to score easily as skipper Skipper Dhawan brings up his half-century with a dive towards long-on. In the very next delivery, his opening partner Parthiv Patel too brings up his fifty.
Shehan Jayasuriya is brought back into the attack. However, unlike his first over, his second over started off with two consecutive boundaries. He comes back well to give away just four more runs off the remaining over
Kandurata Maroon’s trump card Ajantha Mendis was introduced in the last over of the powerplay. However, Shikhar Dhawan made a mockery of the mystery spinner’s bowling. After failing to capitalise on a poor delivery in the first ball of the over, he hit three consecutive boundaries in the over. One was a pull on the leg followed by a gracious drive on the off-side and another pull on the leg.
Lahiru Jayaratne is brought in to bowl the second over of the innings. However, the start isn’t good with a poor delivery wide outside the off. Sunrisers Hyderabad get their innings moving with a boundary off the second ball of the over.
Parthiv Patel charges down the track to hit the last delivery of the over for a boundary.
Dale Steyn bowls his best over of the innings, giving away just five runs. It has been an unusually poor day for Steyn in the business. During the course of the over, he also hurts his fingers after being hit by Dilhara’s Lokuhettige’s straight smack.
Dale Steyn finds his rythym back in the second spell. Even as the Kandurata batsmen look to attack, they manage to score just six runs from Steyn’s first five deliveries before guiding his last delivery towards the third-man boundary.
Ishant Sharma’s second spell doesn’t get off to the best possible start as Thirimanne cuts a delivery outside off for a boundary. The Kandurata skipper brings up his fifty off the next delivery with a comfortable single.
To add to Ishant Sharma’s woes, a mistimed pull by Thirimanne falls away from the man stationed at mid-on and goes for a boundary. However, Sharma comes back to to uproot the Kandurata skipper’s stumps.
Thirimanne takes advantage of a poor short-pitched delivery by JP Duminy to hit it for a boundary on the leg. Duminy bowls another delivery of similar length to Sangakkara, but is lucky to not be punished.
The contest betwen the bat and the ball becomes interesting as both the batsmen and Darren Sammy play clever cricket. Although Sammy is hammered for two boundaries in the over, he comes back to bowl a nippy delivery that finds Thirimanne unaware. However, the Kandurata skipper is not given out.
With the run-rate hovering around run-a-ball, Kumar Sangakkara attempts a slog, but top-edges it. Luckily for him, it lands safely. He follows it up with a smack through the covers, which is brilliantly stopped.
Dale Steyn’s misery continues in the second over as Tharanga hits him for two consecutive boundaries. An unusual start for the pacer, by his standards. However, he returns to bowl three consecutive dot deliveries and ended by giving a single off the last ball.
Dhawan removes a slip for Ishant Sharma after Sunrisers get off to a poor start. In a moment of madness, Jayasuriya backs to far as Tharanga defends Sharma’s delivery to square mid-on. But is lucky to survive as an attempt at the stumps doesn’t hit.
Sharma continues to trouble the batsmen with excellent variation in length. He gives away just one run in the over.
Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Lahiru Thirimanne will lead the Kandurata side.
