Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) finally achieved victory after consecutive defeats in the previous two outings. This time they eased through a comfortable win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs (DL method) in Match 22 of IPL 2016. Skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first. SRH started off with a disappointing start with SRH skipper going for duck instantly. The middle-order also failed to perform to their best with Eoin Morgan, Aditya Tare, Deepak Hooda and Moises Henriques going for single digits. Naman Ojha and Shikhar Dhawan from the top-order managed to put up a partnership to keep the game moving. But once again RPS struck with their attack and targeted Ojha, who went for 18 from 21. Once Bipul Sharma was picked, it was Buvneshwar Kumar with his 3-fours and a six took SRH to 100-plus total. But the star for SRH remained with Shikhar with his knock of 53-ball 56 including 2-fours and a six. RPS showed an overall performance with Mitchell Marsh and Ashok Dinda grabbing two and three apiece. Dinda played his first match of IPL 2016 while Marsh played his second. When RPS were put to bat, they started off with a setback of Ajinkya Rahane going too soon for a duck. It was Faf du Plessis and Steven Smith’s powerful inning that carried the flow for RPS. Though, skipper Dhoni did come in to take the role of finisher, but this time around it was Smith showing his T20 skills confidently and remaining unbeaten at 36-ball 46 including 7-fours.
