Suryakumar Yadav may have been the nonchalant eccentric Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman, who does not care about how he bats as long as runs keep coming. However, this feature of his has earned the Mumbai cricketer a maiden India A call for the one-off warm-up Twenty20 (T20) match against South Africa. The match will be played at the Air Force Ground in Palam on September 29. When he was informed about the India A call by his teammates, he was expressionless and surprised. “I had no expression. I was surprised,” he was quoted by mid-day. “It is high time that I grab my opportunity now. The opportunity has come at the right time. I have played for Mumbai for a few years and I know how to deal with it,” he added.
Suryakumar has played 35 First-Class, 38 List A and 57 T20 matches till now. He impressed everyone by scoring 73 on Ranji debut. His highest First-Class score is 200 and currently his batting average is 45.03.
“Earlier, I would think too much about everything. ‘I scored so much, so I should be playing here’ and thoughts like that. I would think too much about success and failures, but now I am concentrating on my process and not the outcome. I am learning to take success and failure in equal measure, something which I realised after talking to our coach Chandrakant Pandit. It is helping me a lot,” Suryakumar said.
India A squad for warm-up T20 against South Africa: Mayank Agarwal, Manan Vohra, Manish Pandey, Mandeep Singh (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Rishi Dhawan, Anureet Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Pawan Negi and Kuldeep Yadav.
