Smith was a member of the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2014 who won the tournament, reported the official Cricket Australia website.
Smith is not a stranger to the Big Bash League as he was a part of the New South Wales team in 2009, so he is well versed with the Australian playing conditions and especially the limited overs cricket.
Smith said, “I’m looking forward to playing the games and I’m sure the players will be raring to win games too so I hope I can just get out there and put my team in good position or win games for them.” He further added, “I’m sure the pitches will play differently to places like the West Indies, India and other places like Bangladesh that I’ve played before so I’m raring to get over there and play for the Sixers. I’m going to come and give it my best and hopefully we can see plenty of sixes when it comes my turn to play for the Sixers.”
Smith is now a much sought player in all the Twenty 20 (T20) leagues because of his experience. He has already played 91 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 29 T20s for West Indies. He was also one of the star batsmen for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014.
