TNPL 2017: Chepauk Super Gillies bowlers restrict VB Thiruvallur Veerans to 126

The opposition’s team captain, R Sathish, wrecked havoc in the Thiruvallur Veerans’ camp, as he picked up 3 wickets and got the top-3, including Aparajith, back in the pavilion.

In the third match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2017, Baba Aparajith led VB Thiruvallur Veerans were up against Rajagopal Sathish’s Chepauk Super Gillies. Aparajith won the toss and opted to bat. The decision, however, turned against him as his side lost 5 wickets for mere 55 runs in the first 9 overs. The opposition’s team captain, R Sathish, wrecked havoc in Veerans’ camp, picking 3 wickets and got the top-3, including Aparajith, back in the pavilion.

Malolan Rangarajan, who was dropped on 8 on the bowling of R Alexander, went on to score a useful 28-ball 27 to provide some stability. In the first over of Antony Dhas, Rangarajan went after the bowler and smashed a six and four off consecutive deliveries. The partnership between him and R Rajan helped Veerans reach 88 runs at the end of 14 overs.

This was the time when Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore was introduced back into the attack. The left-arm spinner made amends straightaway and broke the partnership by getting rid of Rajan for 14. In his next over, Sai Kishore also picked up Rangarajan’s scalp to send both the set batsmen back in the hut. It was a fine spell of bowling from the youngster as he gave away only 16 runs in his 4 overs and picked up 2 crucial wickets.

At the end of 18 overs, the scoreboard read 102 for 7 – nowhere near a competitive total. They needed someone to provide them with a solid finish and the job was done by Abhishek Tanwar, who scored a 17-ball 25 and helped his team to post in excess of 120. 24 runs came off the last two overs and Thiruvallur Veerans ended up getting 126 in 20 overs.

Brief scores:

VB Thiruvallur Veerans 126 for 7 in 20 overs (NS Chaturved 35, Malolan Rangarajan 27, Abhishek Tanwar 25; Rajagopal Sathish 3 for 17, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore 2 for 16) vs Chepauk Super Gillies
