Before tea, New Zealand received some respite by picking a huge wicket of Usman Khawaja after securing his ton with Trent Boult providing relief for hosts. Australia are now 330 for 5 leading by 147 runs. Eearlier, Khawaja and Adam Voges, who is playing at 91, were continuing their innings until Boult came in and took off Khawaja from the field. Voges is eyeing his third consecutive century following scores of 269 not out and an unbeaten 106 against the West Indies in December with a phenomenal average of 92.91 from 19 innings. On the second day 5th over, Boult was successful to remove off Mitchell Marsh off the crease. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: New Zealand vs Australia, 1st Test at Wellington

The Test is five sessions old and Australia have won all of them, although New Zealand had a brief period of satisfaction in the middle session Saturday. With the pitch flattening out, New Zealand had been unable to produce the same swing and seam movement that assisted the Australians on day one. With Boult bowling wide of the crease, Khawaja shaped to turn the ball to the on-side only to have it straighten and slam into the back pad. Khawaja’s marathon innings was over but not before he had set Australia up with a 168-run stand with Voges for the fourth wicket that ensured New Zealand would face a huge first innings deficit. Marsh did not have time to settle. With the first delivery he faced he was subjected to an appeal and unsuccessful New Zealand review and with the second he was gone, caught and bowled by Boult. Peter Nevill (not out 15) partnered Voges through to the tea break with the zip again fading from the New Zealand attack.  Australia had resumed the day on 147-3 with Khawaja tough on any loose deliveries as his 25 fours testified. He brought up his 100 pulling Mark Craig to the boundary to give him four Test centuries, all coming in his last six innings. (Inputs by AFP)
