Usman Khawaja goes past the 1,000-run mark in Tests during the second day’s play of the first Test against New Zealand at Wellington. Kawaja scored his fourth Test century and needed 119 runs to reach 1,000 runs in Tests. Khawaja has had a golden tun in Tests of late. He has scored heavily in the recent series against West Indies and also in the home series against New Zealand. Khawaja played a key role in the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL) to ensure that his side won the title. New Zealand were bowled out for 183 on Day One after they were asked to bat first. Khawaja put on a 126-run stand with his skipper Steven Smith after Australia had lost a couple of quick wickets. Along with Adam Voges, he has already put on 100-plus for the fourth wicket and the duo look to pile on more misery on the hosts. Khawaja made his Test debut in 2011 against England. After some excellent performances in the domestic circuit, Khawaja made a comeback into the Australian side in the end of 2015 and has been an integral part of the Australian team across formats. He recently made his T20 International (T20I) debut against India at Sydney. Khawaja has also played five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia. He will look to cement his place in the side in other formats as well.
