Uttar Pradesh (UP) Under-19 have successfully managed to chase 446, which was set by Mumbai under-19 in Mumbai to clinch the Cooch Behar Trophy for 2015-16. It was a remarkable chase where the skipper Shivam Chaudhary led from the front and scored a superb century. Madhav Kaushik and Rinku Singh scored 136 and 130, which helped Uttar Pradesh chase it down with three wickets to spare. It all started when Mumbai had won the toss and elected to bat first. They put up just 289 on the board, courtesy of half-centuries from Shams Mulani and Onkar Jadhav. Vijay Trivedi was the pick of the bowlers for UP with three wicket to his name in the first innings.
UP in replay were bowled out for just 205 with Mulani being the pick of the bowlers with five wickets. Mumbai put on an improved show in the second innings, where they scored 359 as Rudra Shandey and jadhav struck excellent centuries. Jadhav carried on his excellent form from the first innings into the second innings as well. Mumbai would have thought that they had the match won, but UP put on a magnificent fight and ensured that they got over the line without much trouble. Mumbai had won the Cooch Behar U-19 Trophy in 2012 for the seventh time. This was an excellent match, played at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana Ground in Mumbai. Many if these young players will look to break into the Ranji Trophy sides with the dream of representing India one day.
