Vernon Philander has taken 100 wickets in Test cricket. The South African seamer dismissed Shikhar Dhawan on Day Three of the first Test against India in Johannesburg to get to the milestone. This is only his 19th Test.
He is also the fastest South African bowler to get to 100 wickets and tied for the eighth fastest in Test history. Before the start of the match, Philander had 95 wickets to his name. He had taken four wickets in India’s first innings to get to 99 Test wickets.
Dhawan edged a length delivery from Philander to Jacques Kallis at second slip. Before the start of the match, Philander had an average of 17.50 and a strike-rate of 37.9. He had taken nine five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket hauls in Test cricket.
