Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer Kamindu Mendis bowled both left-arm spin and right-arm off-breaks against Pakistan Under-19 in their ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016 match. Mendis, who bats at No. 3 for Sri Lanka, proved himself adept at both disciplines. He did not take a wicket, but bowled four overs for 21 runs as Pakistan were bowled out for a mere 212. Hasan Mohsin top-scored for Pakistan with 86 at a run-a-ball, but no one else but Salman Fayyaz (33) could cross 30. Thilan Nimesh, Wanidu Hasaranga, and Damitha Silva took two wickets each for Sri Lanka. Full Cricket Scorecard: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016

In response Sri Lanka Under-19s did not get off to a good start. Kaveen Bandara and Avishka Fernando were out early, but Mendis and skipper Charith Asalanka took the score to 58 before the latter was dismissed. Shammu Ashan was out soon after, but then Vishad Randika and Mendis put on 84 runs and looked set to guide Sri Lanka home. Mendis’ dismissal for 68 opened up the floodgates though, and were later bowled out for just 189. For Sri Lanka Mendis top-scored with 68 off 104 balls, while Randika made 46 off 71 balls. Damitha Silva was unbeaten on 21 off 30 balls, but only Bandara, with 14 off 18 balls, reached double figures apart from them. The ambidextrous Kamindu Mendis

Posted by Cricket Videos on Tuesday, 2 February 2016

Mendis’ ambidextrous show of bowling is not the only time a Sri Lankan bowler has bowled with both hands in a World Cup match! Hashan Tillakaratne had done so against Kenya in the 1996 World Cup. In the match where Sri Lanka piled on 398 for 5 — then highest-ever ODI score — Tillakaratne switched from one arm to the next mid-over. It remains the only time in recorded history that a bowler has changed hands in the middle of an over.
