Rohit Sharma has suggested that Mumbai Indians (MI) need to improve in the bowling department after their win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. KKR posted 187 in 20 overs before Rohit ensured MI chased down the target with five balls to spare. The MI skipper remained unbeaten on 84 off just 54 balls and his knock was inclusive of 10 fours and two sixes. Later in the innings, it was Jos Butler who gave him the required support with his innings of 40 off 22.”I would want to continue this form for the rest of the tournament. Although there is always room for improvement; especially in the bowling department,” Rohit said. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Mumbai Indians (MI), IPL 2016, Match 5 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

“The bowlers need to understand that taking wickets in this format is very important and we didn’t do that and which is why they ended up scoring 180+.  At one point the KKR batsmen batted really well, looked to cross the 200-run mark. However, our bowlers performed well during the death overs and got us back into the game,” he added.

When asked about MI winning their first match after a loss in their opening fixture, the skipper said, “We have been talking a lot about momentum and today was the perfect day. Winning those two points was very crucial as we have been training hard. We wanted to do well even in the opening match but unfortunately things did not go according to our plan. I have always believed this side has got potential and we just proved it on Wednesday.” WATCH: Rohit Sharma’s post-match conference after Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Match 5 of IPL 2016

Rohit’s history with Eden Gardens is not hidden. However, the Mumbai batsman wants to carry the momentum in the remainder of the tournament.  It’s important that the top-order bats as deep as possible and today it was me. Once I got off to a decent start, I made sure I remain at the crease as long as possible and there is nothing like finishing off for your team.

What I did pretty well is that I planned my innings well and the shots I selected were pretty good. I have played a lot of cricket here which is why I understand the wicket really well. The choice of scoring shots on this pitch and the areas which will give us more runs, I understand these criteria better than most of the other players,” Rohit said.
