India’s star Tennis player Sania Mirza had the perfect answer for Rajdeep Sardesai’s, former First-Class cricketer and son of former Indian great Dilip Sardesai’s, question to ‘settle down’. Sania smashed that question like a tennis ball. Sania recently released her autobiography, ‘Ace against odds’ in presence of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. The 29-year-old felt offended on how the journalist framed the question only because she is a female sportsperson. Rajdeep admitted himself that he would not have asked the same question from a male sportsperson and apologised right away for hurting Sania Mirza’s feelings. Sania rather took it sportingly as she has faced these questions earlier. When Rajdeep apologised, she appreciated that he is the first journalist to do so on national television. So Rajdeep’s question went like this, “Amidst all the celebrity-hood, when is Sania going to settle down? Is it going to be in Dubai? Is it going to be in any other country? What about motherhood, building a family? I don’t see all that in the book. It seems like you don’t want to retire just yet to settle down.” ALSO READ: Rajdeep Sardesai involved in public brawl
Sania Mirza’s reply was spot on, “You sound disappointed I’m not choosing motherhood over being number one in the world. But I’ll answer your question anyway. That’s the question I face all the time as a woman, that all women have to face – the first is marriage and then it’s motherhood. Unfortunately, that’s when we’re settled, and no matter how many Wimbledon’s we win or number ones in the world we become, we are never settled. But eventually it will happen, not right now. And when it does, I’ll be the first one to tell everyone.”
