Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17: MS Dhoni meets old ‘chaiwala’ friend; hosts him for dinner
It was not just Thomas who Dhoni met up with. The much-loved Indian cricketer did not disappoint his other old buddies from Kharagpur and hosted 11 of his railway friends at his hotel.
MS Dhoni values friendship a lot. His friends have played a huge role in his life, and we have seen that bit in the biopic on his life titled ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’. Recently, another act of former Indian captain reconfirmed how much he values his old friends. ‘Mahi’, as he is fondly known as amongst his friends, is currently in Kolkata for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17. It is here that he met a few of his old friends from the days when he was a junior TT with Indian Railways at the Kharagpur station. This reunion has been hitting the headlines, and for a special reason.
During his days as TT, Dhoni would often visit Thomas’ tea stall at least 2-3 times a day. So when Thomas knew Dhoni was in Kolkata, he decided to go and meet up with his old ‘customer’. However, little did he expect that Dhoni would recognise him. Dhoni, as a matter of fact, not just recognised him but also took him out for a grand dinner.
Dhoni, of course, is a man who never ceases to surprise us. A report in Daily Bhaskar recently quoated an emotional Thomas as saying, “When Dhoni bhai was in Kharagpur, he used to visit my shop two or three times a day to have tea. Many times I served him hot milk in that period. After today’s incident, I will go back to Kharagpur and name my shop ‘Dhoni Tea Stall.”
