Virat Kohli has become the first Indian batsmen to reach the milestone of 1,000 runs in the Twenty20 International (T20I) format. The feat was achieved during the first T20I between India and South Africa at Dharamsala. Coming into the match Kohli required just 28 runs to reach the milestone and he reached the milestone in style. Kohli’s average of over 46 is outstanding and is by far the best among batsmen with over 1,000 runs in the format. Kohli got to the milestone with a mammoth six of Imran Tahir and celebrated the landmark with another six. SCORECARD: India vs South Africa 1st T20I at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala
Globally, New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum tops the chart for most runs in T20Is and is the only batsman with over 2,000 runs in the international T20 game. Kohli’s landmark could soon be replicated by Suresh Raina who is not very far behind in terms of runs.
Meanwhile in this match, Rohit Sharma has been star of the game so far. He has gone past a fluent fifty and is now looking to accelerate further. Kohli supported him well but was the passive partner, but has also gotten into the act and both batsmen are smashing the South African bowlers all over the park.
Earlier in the game, South Africa won the toss and Faf du Plessis expectedly chose to bowl first, citing the dew-factor as a reason for his call. MS Dhoni said even he would have liked to bowl first for the very same reason. The match, being played as Dharamsala, can be expected to offer some assistance for the fast bowlers too.
