When Kohli walked in to bat, he needed 49 runs to cross the 4,000-run mark and he did so with a single off James Tredwell. He also brought up his 22nd ODI half-century, leading India to a seven-wicket win.
With this feat, the 24-year-old also became the second youngest cricketer to reach the land mark.
Kohli had a phenomenal run with the bat in 2012, as he became the highest run-getter for India in ODIs with 1,026 runs in 17 matches at an impressive average of 68.70
He has often been likened to Viv Richards and he took the similarity one step further when he equalled Viv’s record of scoring 4,000 runs in 96 ODIs. In the process, he surpassed Sourav Ganguly’s record which took 105 ODIs.
