Virat Kohli fell four runs short of scoring his second century in the first Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. Kohli, who had got 119 in the first innings, was dismissed for 96 off 193 balls in India‘s second innings. Kohli could have become the fourth Indian batsman to score two centuries in the same Test.
He edged a JP Duminy delivery to AB de Villiers behind the wickets. India’s score is at 327 for five after 99 overs. Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed for 153 in the morning session. Rohit Sharma was bowled for six by Jacques Kallis. Ajinkya Rahane and MS Dhoni were out in the middle.
Kohli was batting on 77 of 132 balls at the start of play on Day Four. India’s lead over South Africa has extended to 363 runs. The partnership between Kohli and Pujara was worth 222 runs for the third wicket.
Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid are the three batsmen to score two centuries in both innings of a Test match. Gavaskar scored two centuries in the same Test thrice and Dravid did it twice.
