Virat Kohli hints at Rishabh Pant’s debut in India vs West Indies, 3rd ODI
Youngster Rishabh Pant earned his maiden India call-up in One-Day International (ODI) cricket for West Indies tour with impressive performance and now Virat Kohli has hinted at the cricketer making his ODI debut for India during the third match against West Indies.
Youngster Rishabh Pant earned his maiden India call-up in One-Day International (ODI) cricket for West Indies tour with impressive performance and now Virat Kohli has hinted at the cricketer making his ODI debut for India during the third match against West Indies. After the series opener got washed out, India took a 1-0 lead with a comprehensive 105-run victory in the second ODI. India, who ended as the runners up of the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2017, will play five ODIs and a one-off Twenty20 International (T20I) in the Caribbean. Kohli, when asked about Pant’s chances to represent India, said in the post match conference of the second ODI, “We’ll sit down and decide as a team about changes that can be made (when asked about Pant). We’ll go to Antigua and regroup, and that’s a possibility as well, give a few guys an opportunity.” Seniors MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh have been struggling with consistency, which widens Pant’s probabilities to earn a spot in the eleven even more.
Rahul Dravid, coach of India U-19 and India A teams, also voiced his concern about India’s middle-order becoming weak due to the lack of form of the two players. “It is a call that is got to be taken by the selectors and the management. And what they see as the road map for Indian cricket, and where they see the role of both these cricketers going ahead for the next couple of years. Is there a place for both of them? Is there a place for only one of them?,” asked Dravid.
India will play the third ODI at Antigua on Friday.
