Virat Kohli, who will be leading India in the first Test match against Australia at Brisbane starting December 4, says that he is often misunderstood and he is not as arrogant as the world thinks he is.
“People’s opinions keep changing. The worst, and the most common label used with me is that I am arrogant. I’m not… on the field. I’m always focussed, because I’m very competitive. I don’t laugh or crack jokes. Some people see that as arrogance,” Kohli was quoted as saying by HT Cafe.
The stand-in India captain, who will be leading the team in the opening Test of their four-match series Down Under says that people got to see the other side of Kohli in the popular television show ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’.
Kohli said, “People saw the other side of me, they were very shocked and surprised. But unless you can spend time to someone, you shouldn’t make a judgement about them.”
Kohli added, “I do what I believe in. As long as my friends and family don’t feel that I have changed, or I am doing something wrong…”
The 26-year-old has recently accepted his relationship with Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, to whom he blew a kiss during the India versus Sri Lanka third One-Day International (ODI) at Hyderabad earlier this month.
“That kiss wasn’t instinctive at all. It was intentional. People can see what’s going on. No need for any of us to be talking about this on a regular basis. We both are at stages where there is a lot going on in our personal lives. And these things take the focus away,” Kohli concluded.
