Virat Kohli, during his 41 at Johannesburg on Friday, has become the leading run-scorer as India Test captain. Kohli surpassed his predecessors in form of Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. Kohli’s run-tally, as a leader, stands above Dhoni (3,454), and he now leads the chart. The right-hander has 2,062 runs in 19 Tests captained at home. In addition, Kohli has close to 1,400 runs in unfamiliar conditions as skipper.

Kohli achieved the milestone in only his 57th innings as captain (35 Tests). On the contrary, Dhoni accumulated 3,454 runs in 96 innings (60 Tests). The Indian skipper attained the landmark in a beautifully-stitched 41 during a low-scoring ongoing thriller at Johannesburg. On a track offering awkward bounce and extra pace, Kohli looked sure of his footwork and battled hard against South Africa pacers. It is because of his gritty knock that India are in the game, with the lead nearing 150.

Kohli also has six double hundreds (since June 2016) as captain.
