Virat Kohli received the International Player of the Year 2017-18 award from Barmy Army before the start of the practice match between Essex and India. The Barmy Army is famously known for their religious support of the England cricket team on overseas tour with their songs and chants.

The BCCI, on its official Twitter account, shared the picture of Kohli holding the award and quoted, “The @TheBarmyArmy presents #TeamIndia Captain @imVkohli with the International Player of the Year for years 2017 and 2018.”

Kohli played a breezy innings of 68 off 93 when India were struggling at 44 for 3 after the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane (17). He added 90 runs with Murali Vijay (53) for the fourth wicket to steady India. India finished the day on 322 for 6 with four batsmen scoring half-centuries. For India, Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik are in the middle playing on 33 and 82 respectively.
