Bhuvneshwar Kumar was India’s star bowler in the first Test at Cape Town. He took three wickets in his opening three overs during the first innings and finished with 6 wickets in the match. He also contributed with the bat. Team India surprised everyone by dropping him to make place for Ishant Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan was failed to score runs in the match was also dropped and replaced by KL Rahul.

In an interview with India TV Virender Sehwag has heavily criticised the team selection saying ‘Virat Kohli should drop himself if he doesn’t perform’

‘Kohli should drop himself’

“Watching Virat Kohli excluding Shikhar Dhawan for just one Test failure, and Bhuvneshwar for no reason at all, Kohli should drop himself in the third Test at Centurion, if he fails to perform in Centurion,” Sehwag said.

“Excluding Bhuvneshwar wasn’t the right decision. Citing that Ishant might benefit with his height, Virat Kohli has hurt Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s self-confidence.

Bhuvi also contributed a crucial 99 run partnership with Hardik Pandya in the first innings and a 49 run partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin in the second.

“They could have played Ishant in place of any other bowler. Bhuvneshwar performed well in Cape Town and excluding him like this isn’t justified,” Sehwag added.

Wriddhiman Saha was ruled out of the match due to hamstring injury, Parthiv Patel was picked to replace him. Despite the three changes India performed well on day one after hard working first two sessions. South Africa are 269 for 6 at stumps.
