Virat Kohli is set to play the second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The skipper of the Indian Test team intends to gain some practice ahead of the Sri Lanka tour, if a report on The Times of India is to be believed. Earlier in the day, Kohli was picked as the leader of the Indian squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, the news of which was announced in a press conference held by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to reports, Kohli had personally requested the board to select him for the A squad, intending gear up for the Sri Lanka tour. ALSO READ: BCCI announce India squad for 2015 Sri Lanka tour

Kohli, along with the rest of the Indian team, had been playing non-stop cricket since November last year when India landed in Australia at the start of what would be a gruelling tour. India went on to play four Tests, a triangular series also featuring England, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Kohli went on to captain the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), before touring with the Indian team on their disastrous tour of Bangladesh.

The India A team are currently battling against their Australian counterparts in Chennai. India won the toss and elected to bat, finishing on a score of 221 for six after 77.1 overs at the end of the first day. KL Rahul and skipper Cheteshwar Pujara led the way for the Indian batsmen, scoring 96 and 55 respectively. LIVE UPDATES: India A vs Australia A, 1st unofficial Test, Day 2
