The tension between arch-rivals India and Pakistan has been mounting after the Uri attack. Many soldiers were killed as well as the injured count was also on a high. After a lot of fuss and controversy, the Indian government finally decided to take some necessary steps and counterattack these problems. Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on Pakistani terrorists stationed across the Line of Control (LOC) on Wednesday night, a step which was appreciated by many in the country. Director General of Military Operations Lt General Ranbir Singh revealed in a joint press conference with the MEA that Indian forces led by a Special Operations Group led the surgical strikes operation and has inflicted momentous fatalities to terrorists and those who were protecting them.

A surgical strike is basically an attack on a precise target, which aims to counteract it and further ensuring minimal collateral damage. Ranbir Singh was quoted in a report from IndianExpress.com saying, “Significant casualties have been caused to terrorists and those trying to shield them. We don’t have a plan to further conduct such strikes. India has spoken to Pakistan.”

“Based on receiving specific and credible inputs that some terrorist teams had positioned themselves at launch pads along Line of Control to carryout infiltration and conduct terrorist strikes inside Jammu and Kashmir and in various metros in other states, the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes at several of these launch pads to pre-empt infiltration by terrorists. The operations were focused on ensuring that these terrorists do not succeed in their design to cause destruction and endanger the lives of our citizens,” Singh said

“During these counter terrorist operations significant casualties were caused to terrorists and those providing support to them. The operations aimed at neutralizing terrorists have since ceased. We do not have any plans for further continuation. However, the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared for any contingency that may arise,” the DGMO said. No Indian casualties occurred during the surgical strikes that were carried out last night by the Indian Army. We have recovered items including GPS which have Pakistani markings. Captured terrorists hailing from PoK or Pakistan have confessed to their training in Pakistan or in Pakistan controlled region. I spoke to the Pak DGMO, shared our concerns and told him that we conducted surgical strikes last night,” Singh added.

On this occasion, many cricketers congratulated and hailed Indian army for this valiant effort as they risked their lives for this mission. Cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif and Harbhajan Singh have tweeted so far. One can expect more tweets to flow in as the day progresses.

Sehwag, who has been on a wishing spree in his second innings on Twitter wrote, “Salute to Indian Army. The boys have played really well. Jai Hind. #SurgicalStrike.”

Kaif wrote, “All hail Indian Army. They are truly the best. Jai Hind.”

Harbhajan tweeted:

It’s good to see cricketers taking initiative and recognising the hard work and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. They have certainly won thousands of hearts.
