Born on October 20, 1978, Virender Sehwag turned 36 on Monday. Also known as the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh,’ Sehwag is one of the most attacking batsmen of his era. He is well known for his knocks of 309 against Pakistan at Multan in 2004, 319 against South Africa at Chennai in 2008, and 219 — currently the highest score in ODI cricket — against West Indies at Indore in 2011.
Sehwag was an integral part in India ICC World Cup 2011 campaign, forming a fruitful opening stand with Sachin Tendulkar. He hit 175 against Bangladesh in the tournament opener, an innings that set the tone for what was to follow for India in that series. However, his form deserted him soon after that, and Sehwag was out of the Test and ODI teams by 2013.

Formerly the captain of Delhi Daredevils (DD), he enjoyed a resurgence of sorts with his form for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. He hit a century in the semi-final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to knock the two-time IPL champions out for only the second time in seven years before the final. It is unlikely that Sehwag will play for India again, but there are sure to be those who would love for that not to be the case.
