It’s tough not to draw parallels with Brian Lara but Kirstan Kallicharan‘s achievement is too similar to the West Indian legend. Kallicharan has scored an unbeaten 404 for Vishnu Boys Hindu College against Valencia High School in PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League Under-14 playoff quarter-final. Kallicharan hammered his century in 35 balls and his innings overall consisted 44 fours and 31 sixes. Vishnu scored 548 in 35 overs and went on to bundle their opposition out for 89 and won by a massive margin of 459 runs.
“At the beginning I was just batting normal, just aiming to make a hundred but when I got to my century I realised I could score more and more and I just continued to bat. I am not over-reacting about it. I am just feeling happy I reached there. I am staying focused.” Kallicharan was quoted as saying by Trinidad Express.
“He had dominated the Under-13 level and the Under-15 level last year. It is remarkable but we are not reading too much into it. Before the game, we were discussing the batting order and I asked him if he wanted to open the batting, but he said he wanted to give the other boys a chance,” his coach Tarandath Sammy said to Trinidad Express.
Brief scores as reported by Trinidad Express:
Vishnu Boys 548 for 1 in 35 overs (Kirstan Kallicharan 404*, Rickash Boodram 37*, Sachin Dookie 22; Stefon Gould 1 for 66) beat Valencia 89 in 24 overs (Kirstan Kallicharan 2 for 0, Rickash Boodram 2 for 0, Ceejay Harrypersad 3 for 11) by 459 runs.
