As West Indies prepare to visit UAE for their upcoming tour, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) appoint Toby Radford as the batting coach. While the West Indies squad is already in UAE prepping for the series, Radford will join them there to start his job. In UAE, West Indies are scheduled to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Tests with Pakistan. Earlier, Radford has worked as the assistant coach of the team and the job is supposed to be easier, looking at his relationship with West Indies players due to this experience.

WICB CEO Michael Muirhead told to espncricinfo.com, “He has been contracted just for this series. He knows the youngsters well and had done well especially with them.”

Talking about extending the contract with Radford, Muirhead said: “Highly unlikely. We’ll engage as and when we need him.”

Radford worked with then head coach Ottis Gibson as the assistant batting coach during West Indies’ victorious journey to ICC World T20 2016 in 2012. This time, he will work with the stand-in coach Henderson Springer, who was appointed after the board sacked Phil Simmons recently. Talking about Simmons’ sacking, Muirhead said, “It was the board’s decision. Let us leave it at that. I hired him, so therefore I have to release him but that is on the recommendation of the board. The coach has an opinion and the board collectively had another opinion, and that had happened on more than one occasion.”

Radford ended his terms as the coach of Glamorgan in December last year and joined Ireland’s national cricket academy as the manager. However, he quit that job in the following July and have now taken up this new offer.
