The West Indies made 317 in their first innings against New Zealand at Tea on the third Day of the final Test match played at Barbados.  Jason Holder, the Test debutant played a neat innings of 38 coming down the order at No 8. He was well-supported by Shane Shillingford the tail-ender who played a stubborn knock of 10. Neil Wagner took four wickets for the Kiwis.

Earlier, Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dismissed at the stroke of lunch as the West Indies slipped to 240 for five against New Zealand on the third day of the final Test at Barbados. Denesh Ramdin was at the crease, batting on 20. New Zealand still lead by 53 runs.

The first session’s play belonged to New Zealand as they were able to get rid of the West Indies middle-order. Soon after the play was resumed on the third day, the hosts lost the wicket of Darren Bravo, who was caught by Kane Williamson off Neil Wagner for 24.

The West Indies soon slipped further when Kirk Edwards, who had just completed his half-century, was dismissed by Tim Southee. Bravo’s fall brought the veteran Chanderpaul at the crease, but after adding 35 runs for the fifth wicket with captain Ramdin, he was removed by Wagner. This was the New Zealand pacer’s third wicket in the innings.

Brief scores:

New Zealand 293 (Ross Taylor 45, Jimmy Neesham 78, Mark Craig 46*; Sulieman Benn 5 for 93, Kemar Roach 4 for 61) trail West Indies 317 (Chris Gayle 42, Kraigg Brathwaite 68, Kirk Edwards 58; Neil Wagner 4 for 64) by 24 runs.
