West Indies bundled out for lowest ODI total against Australia at Perth

Australia produced a sensational bowling display to skittle out the West Indies for 70, their third-ever lowest total, in the first One-Day International match at the WACA Ground in Perth on Friday.

West Indies registered their third-ever lowest total in ODI history, whereas this is their lowest-ever against the Australians.

Darren Sammy’s decision to bat first after winning the toss backfired as none of the Caribbean batsmen could manage to stay long at the crease.

Mitchell Starc was the chief tormentor of the West Indian side, taking five wickets for 20 runs from his 6.5 overs.

Australia seamers Clint McKay and James Faulker impressed with the ball as well, taking 3-10 and 2-14 respectively, to rattle the West Indies.

Only three batsmen in the touring side – opener Kieran Powell, Darren Bravo and skipper Sammy managed to get runs in double digits as other West Indies batsmen found it tough to score against the Australians.

Chris Gayle’s poor run in ODIs continued as he was the first man to be dismissed, caught by Aaron Finch off Clint McKay for four off 13 deliveries.

Starc rocked the West Indians in the sixth over of the innings, getting rid of Powell and comeback cricketer Ramnaresh Sarwan in a span of four deliveries to leave the opposition tottering. 

West Indies could never recover from the early blows and slipped to 39 for seven in the 13th over, leaving the responsibility of getting runs to the tail enders.

Brief Scores: West Indies 70 all-out in 23.5 overs (Darren Sammy 16, Kieran Powell 11; Mitchell Starc 5 for 20, Clint McKay 3 for 10, James Faulkner 2 for 14) vs Australia.
