They may have had their differences during their playing days, but former Indian cricketers Mohammad Azharuddin and Navjot Singh Sidhu are more than friends now. Sidhu, who has been admitted in the Indaprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi had a surprise visitor recently, none other than his former captain in the Indian cricket team, Azharuddin. Sidhu has been diagnosed with the life threatening disease acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and has been making speedy recovery. The former right-handed batsman, who is also a famous television personality, does not require any surgical intervention as of now. The hospital does not allow any visitors, but it has been reported that Azharuddin barged into Sidhu’s room saying “my brother is inside”. During India’s tour of England in 1996, Sidhu left after he learnt that he will not be selected in the playing eleven, and Azharuddin and the then team manager Sandeep Patil failing to inform him about the same. What would possibly have irked Sidhu was not his omission, but the fact that other team members got to know about his axing through a team sheet hung at the door of the dressing room. The Indian cricket team management and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not divulge any details on the matter. Sidhu learnt about his exclusion from the third One-Day International (ODI), which was played at the Old Trafford. ALSO READ: Navjot Singh Sidhu stable after suffering life-threatening disease
A book by the former BCCI secretary Jayawant Lele had in 2011 claimed that Sidhu walked out because he thought the Indian cricket team captain Azharuddin was constantly abusing him.
