Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series in England. The Indian selectors preferred Ambati Rayudu ahead of the more experienced Rahane. In an interview with India TodaySourav Ganguly voiced his disappointment at the decision: ”Ajinkya Rahane has missed out on limited-overs squad. A harsh decision. I would still pick Ajinkya Rahane ahead of Ambati Rayudu. Ajinkya Rahane is a far superior player in England where the ball is going to move. He has got a good record in England.”

Rayudu’s selection comes thanks to his superlative show in the ongoing IPL season. He has so far scored 423 runs for Chennai Super Kings at an impressive average of 42 and a strike rate of 152. Rahane, on the other hand, has 239 runs at 30 and a strike rate of 126. However, Rahane has been appointed as India captain in their solitary Test against Afghanistan (their inaugural Test), at Bengaluru next month.
