It took the experience of Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh  to bail out Punjab in a one-over eliminator win against Karnataka in their Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy Super League opener. This was the first match of Group B at Jadavpur University second campus ground. Chasing 159 to win, Punjab levelled Karnataka’s score at the end of 20 overs, to go into one-over eliminator.

It was Yuvraj along with Mandeep Singh, who set a target of 15 runs for Karnataka to achieve. IPL star Siddharth Kaul held his nerves and restricted Karnataka’s batsmen to just 11 runs.

Yuvraj, had an superb day in the field, plucking out to scorchers at square leg, to get rid of Stuart Binny and CM Gautam. He was ransacked for 17 runs, however.

Mandeep Singh’s explosive start took Punjab into the lead, but Sreenath Aravind swung Karnataka back into the game with a 4 for 32 show. Harbhajan Singh blasted a 19-ball 33, while Yuvraj slammed 29 off 25 that saved Punjab from a defeat.

Needing 31 of 26, Sharad Lumba played a handy knock of 20 runs. It took a boundary by Sandeep Sharma to tie the scores on the final ball.

Earlier, Karnataka’s innings was helped by Aniduddha Joshi and Gautam. Joshi top-scored with 40, and Gautam accumulated 36 runs. Baltej Singh and Manpreet Gony claimed 3 and 2 wickets each to stifle Karnataka’s strong batting line up.
