Zaheer Khan has taken his 300th wicket in Test cricket. Jacques Kallis was his milestone wicket. He achieved the feat in South Africa‘s second innings of the first Test in Johannesburg. Entering the match, Zaheer had 295 wickets. He took four wickets in the first innings.
The left-arm seamer got Kallis leg-before for 34 on Day Five of the Test. The ball did take a deflection off the bat though.
This is Zaheer’s 89th Test match. He is also making his comeback after nearly a year away from the team. Zaheer is only the fourth Indian bowler to take 300 Test wickets. Anil Kumble leads the way with 619 wickets. Kapil Dev is second with 434 and Harbhajan Singh is third with 413. Zaheer has taken 10 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul in Test cricket so far.
Zaheer has taken 196 wickets away from home in 51 Test matches so far. He has 104 wickets in 38 Tests at home.
India set South Africa a 458-run target to win the first Test at the New Wanderers Stadium. South Africa are at 202 for four after 61 overs in their second innings.
